Bus Accidents - Dallas Jury Awards $11 Million

Bus Accidents – Dallas Jury awards $11 million verdict to victims of charter bus accident

Earlier this year, the families of Paula Hahn and Alice Stanley were awarded a multi-million dollar verdict after the victims died as a result of an accident involving their charter bus. Shortly after Hahn and Stanley had boarded, their commercial bus had lost control and rolled over. Stanley suffered severe injuries and spent the last ten days of her life in the hospital. Hahn was ejected during the rollover and died instantly.
Charter buses are subject to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Not only must charter bus drivers drive safely, but the charter bus companies are responsible for ensuring that their employees are properly licensed, properly trained and well-rested. Charter bus companies are also required to ensure that their vehicles are properly maintained. A failure to follow these rules often results in major accidents with serious injuries. A recent charter bus accident in the Rio Grande Valley resulted in left eight dead and more than forty others injured. Furthermore, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration had previously fined this charter bus for violating pre-employment drug testing regulations and failing to maintain their vehicles.
